Show Notes

David led a jubilant procession of 30,000 men to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, but placed it on a new cart driven by oxen rather than carrying it on the shoulders of the Levites as God had commanded. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah reached out to steady the ark and was struck dead by God for this irreverent violation of the law. This shocking judgment reveals the seriousness of approaching God on his own terms rather than according to human convenience or cultural fashion. Pastor Chris warns against the tendency, especially in times of change and progress, to soften or forget the holiness of God in worship, drawing a parallel to modern trends that prioritize experience over reverence. True worship requires fear, trembling, and awe before a God who is good but never safe apart from the mediation of Jesus Christ.
