Psalm 29 calls all people to ascribe glory and strength to the Lord by contemplating His awesome holiness and sovereign power, depicted through the devastating imagery of a storm that shatters the cedars of Lebanon and shakes the wilderness. Pastor Gordon warns against worship that is zeal without knowledge, where God is refashioned into a comfortable image rather than encountered in His terrible majesty. Yet the psalm ends in comfort, because the same God who thunders over creation speaks peace to His people through the Gospel, sheltering them from His wrath through the work of Christ who bore the storm of God's judgment on the cross.
