Drawing from Proverbs 4:20-27, Pastor Gordon calls believers to guard their hearts with all diligence, recognizing that the heart is the spring from which all of life flows and is naturally prone to the corrupting pursuits of power, sex, and money. The means of keeping the heart are storing Gods Word within it and guarding the outlets and inlets of sin through the mouth, eyes, and feet. The motivation for this vigilance is not fear of judgment but the love of a God who has already promised in the covenant of grace to keep His people, demonstrated supremely in Christs perfect obedience to the cross on their behalf.
